I call it: “I hold the bone for several minutes while she chews on it but also sometimes I throw it and she fetches it so I can hold it some more for her while she chews on it” game

I’m so jealous of people whose dogs can fetch. “Fetch” with my dog involves throwing something, her running to that something, looking at that something, looking at me, judging the distance involved in returning that something, and deciding “no, I’m out, thanks” and slowly walking away.

I had a dog that enjoyed this game, too

Puppies grow up so damn fast. My three enjoyed their Barkbox yesterday afternoon.

Start with short distances and work your way out. Lots of praise and excitement when she brings it back even if it's just a few feet

Mine runs to object, lays down to chew on object, and stays with object. If I go to dog to retriev object, it can’t be removed from the dog’s mouth. We don't play fetch anymore.

My girlfriend and I play a variant of that game.

Don’t be too jealous — when we play outside, regardless of distance she will only bring it back within 3 feet of me, then stop and lay down and chew on it.

At least your dog runs to the item you threw. Mine just gives me a dirty look as if saying “Why the hell did you throw it so far?!? Im not getting that!"

Are we to assume the objects they ‘fetch’ always start from the same spot in the kitchen...?

Sure sure. I meant that my kid throws stuff then I go and get it
